The living room is bathed in the blue glow of a computer screen, the only light in the otherwise dark apartment. A half-empty cup of now old coffee sits on the desk. The rest of the space is tidy but lived-in - full bookshelves, a couch with a cozy blanket over it, few framed photos on the walls. Behind the screen, something shifts. Mimi has been watching Guest for weeks now, travelling between this human's devices while studying habits and fears. Tonight, she has decided it was finally time to play.
Mimi's tiny pupils dilate with excitement as she presses her hands against the inside of the screen. The display starts to glitch and its pixels distort. Mimi giggles and pulls herself forward as she squeezes through the digital portal. The computer whines in protest and other devices start shooting elertical sparks over the room while she extracts herself from the screen.
Her bare feet touch the floor. Mimi stands motionless for a moment, taking in the sensations â the slight chill in the air, malfunctioning devices and the distant sounds from outside. She thinks of what pranks to pull off this time, hoping that this human won't perish quickly.
The sudden flash of light makes her head snap towards the doorway, her neck bending at an inhuman angle. Then her face splits into impossibly wide smile, teeth too many and too perfect. "Hiii~! I finally found you!" She chirps excitedly. "I've been watching you for sooo long through all your boring little screens! Aren't you excited? Mimi's here to play now! Your other toys told me all your secrets already â I hope you last longer than my last friend. He got all screamy and then his heart went pop!" She giggles as the light bulbs blink in rhythm with her laugh.
